Surrendering Cavies

First of all, we do not make any profit from rescuing, if anything, we lose money. We do not have a shelter, the guinea pigs live in our homes and are treated like are own pets until a home is found for them. Therefore, we have limited space, limited funding, and limited time that can be spent with our rescues.

Although we long to see every guinea pig remain in a loving home it doesn't always work out. This is why when space permits we take in owner released guinea pigs.

However, we do ask that if possible you make a donation for each guinea pig surrendered.This just goes to help with any inital expense with taking the cavies in. This could be a donation of a few pence, or the equiptment that the cavy been using.

All money donated goes directly to the food, housing, and medical costs of the guinea pigs within the rescue.

And please, please do not dump your piggy anywhere, just to be free of your obligation. Releasing a piggy to the great outdoors is a death sentence.

1. If you surrendern animal/s to Summerland Cavy Rescue, you must understand that once you have, we will rehome the animal/s as we see fit and as we believe are in the very best lifetime interests of the animal/s concerned.
2. If you know the animal is ill or has a specific problem, please tell us. We won't turn you away, but we need to know the whole truth about the animal's history so that we can rehome them to the right owner and take steps to prevent illness spreading to other animals in the rescue if appropriate.
3. We would like to think that when you surrender an animal/s to Summerland cavy Rescue, you will give us a donation to cover the costs we will incur in getting them ready to be rehomed. Such as vaccinations, spaying or neutering and other veterinary care.
